Shallow Feminism

This post is to talk about how Alicia's empowerment speech only shows how ignorant she is about feminism, and the #girlgang is shallow as a puddle of mud.

In an interview in 2017, Alicia talked about the idea she had about CB:

I’m really passionate about rock music and metal music and I wanted to create a group that was like the Pussycat Dolls meets Cirque du Soleil but rock and roll all the way because to me, rock and metal is the coolest music out there, you know? Also, I wanted to do what I thought was cool and that’s why I started the Cherry Bombs.

For those who don't know, PCD started out as a burlesque group in Los Angeles before becoming a music group. Which explains why the hell CB started out wearing lingerie in their performances

The fact that they wanted to incorporate rock and metal into their performances is where the feminist and empowerment discourse falls apart. To begin with, in these two genres of music, women have always been objectified and treated as a 'mere decorative object' for the male gaze, and for that reason, most of them were semi-naked.

So Alicia thinks that she is doing this with CB, calling it empowerment because they are women in lingerie spitting fire or doing acrobatics is just ridiculous.

That's combined with the fact that a lot of people don't take CB seriously because it's a group with an extremely limited choreography style, which is combined with the group's costumes, which until recently were lingerie and fishnet stockings.

But when she went to Nashville for a show in 2021, she complained about a nudity law that made CB's costumes inappropriate. And she questioned this using two photos from a burlesque show.

However, when I saw that burlesque shows in Tennessee take place in places where the minimum age to enter is 21 years old, since most of these places have a bar, while the Nashville venue in question, the Marathon Music Works, generally has no age restriction and children under 14 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

In other words, CB's outfit would be considered inappropriate due to the location and the age of the audience. And then I wonder if she actually read the law, or if she did it deliberately to come off as a victim of the situation and come off as a martyr fighting against misogyny.

But then I remember that in 2019 she made an appearance in a music video holding the sign saying "I will not let toxic misogyny take my empowerment".

I mean, toxic misogyny !? As far as I know, for that to exist there would have to be a positive version and that simply doesn't exist. Alicia wanted to do something impactful but made her look really stupid with this pleonasm.

If she has any notion of feminism, hers is definitely extremely shallow and she should read more about the subject.
